In Each Other's Arms(Kannan Pattu)-Bharathiyar
In Each Other’s Arms – Bharathiyar
This poem is one among the 23 poems published in ‘Kannan Pattu’, by Subramania Bharathiyar. In this song the supreme divinity, ‘Krishna’ is imagined as the Beloved woman and the human soul as the lover.
Bhatarhiyar has created a female version of Krishna in this poem and he calls her ‘Kanamma’. He tells that she is the flowing light and he is the understanding sight. If she is the honey filled flower, he is the bee which is captivated by the honey drops. She is the shining ray of heaven and she sprays wisdom all around her and he can find no words to praise her.
She is the golden harp and he is the finger that plays with it. If she is the necklace that shines he is the diamond that makes it shine. She is the mighty queen with all the splendor and in whichever side he turns, he sees only her face.
She is the singing rain and he is the peacock that dances to the rhythm of it. If she is the grape juice, he is the cup that waits. She is the beauty that emanates long lasting brightness, and in that brightness the eternal truth keeps shining.
She is that silver moon light and he is the ocean that basks in her light. If she is the music, he is the song that moves along with the music. Krishna is as dear as eyesight to Bharathiyar. She is the immortal wine of knowledge. All humans yearns to understand her endless charm but no one has ever mastered it.
She is the fragrance for him and he is the blossoms that carries it. If she is the inner thought he is the words of that thought. Bharathiyar calls upon Krishna, the honeyed hope, the overflowing joy, the star of love to teach him the way to sing his praises in an apt way.
She is the attracting pole and he is the magnet. If she is the Veda, he is the knowledge that it imparts. She is the voice of the world’s desire. Bharathiyar on seeing the face that emanates pure joy becomes speechless.
As the life depends on Pulse, rings on gold, star to planet, soul to things Bharathiyar depends on Krishna. Krishna is the force that keep him going and he comes out victorious. All the joys of Heaven and Earth is born out of Krishna. He is the eternal glory, endless might and he holds the heart of Bharathiyar.
