CRITICISM OF LYCIDAS - Samuel Johnson

                Samuel Johnson was born on 1709. He was a great poet, playwright, essayist, moralist, literary critic, biographer, editor and lexicographer. Some of the major works of Samuel Johnson are “A Dictionary of the English Language”, “A Journey to the Western Isles of Scotland”, Lives of Poets” “The Vanity of Human Wishes” and so on.                 “Lives of the Poets” or the “Lives of the Most Eminent English Poets” was published in 1779. MODERN FICTION - Virginia Woolf

  Virginia Woolf one of the greatest English writers was born on 1882. She was a novelist, essayist and critic. She was a major 20 th century novelist and one of the main exponents of the Stream of Consciousness Technique. Some of her important works are “A Room of One’s Own”, “To the Lighthouse”, “The Waves” and much more. “Modern Fiction”, one of her major critical essay was written in 1919 and was published in 1921. It was published in a series of short stories called “Monday or Tuesday”. This essay is a criticism of writers and literature from the previous generations. BEAU TIBBS AT HOME - Oliver Goldsmith

  “Beau Tibbs at Home” was written by Oliver Goldsmith. He is an Irish novelist who was born on 1728 and died on 1774. He is a great essayist, poet, dramatist and novelist. Some of his major works are “The Vicar of Wakefield”, “The Deserted Village”, “She Stoops to Conquer”, “Citizen of the World”.                 This essay “Beau Tibbs at Home” was taken from the prose “The Citizen of the World” and was published in 1760.
